What is a dynamic website?

A dynamic website is made up of dynamic web pages--pages that provide a dynamic, interactive experience to the user. The content of a dynamic web page can change depending on context, conditions, and the individual user.

Dynamic websites are implemented with computer code that runs either on the user's computer or on the server hosting the website. They are built by computer programmers, and they can do amazing things.

Wikipedia has excellent information on dynamic websites, so we won't get too technical here.

The problem with dynamic websites is that writing the code that implements them requires a level of technical expertise that is rare and expensive.

...BUT...

There are ways of building dynamic websites that are much easier and more cost-effective and give excellent results.

If you have ever written (or even left a comment on) a blog, you know that you can enter text into little boxes on the web page and click a button, and whatever you've written is magically transformed into an integral part of the web page.

Blogs are very basic content management systems. You may have heard of Wordpress or Joomla or Drupal. They are also content management systems, and they make constructing dynamic web page content possible without writing computer code.

raqoon design uses Drupal to build dynamic websites. This website is implemented in Drupal, and as you explore here, you will see a little of what's possible.

Setting up a Drupal website requires a certain amount of expertise. It involves setting up hosting on a server that supports database software, installing the appropriate files on the server, and configuring the modules that implement the website's functionality, but once the site is built, it can be updated almost as easily as updating a blog.

A very basic Drupal website can offer significant functionality and can be set up for as little as $1200. Once the site is set up, the only ongoing maintenance cost will be for updating the Drupal installation periodically. Adding content to the site, including both text and images, can be done by anyone.
